Tasi Mafi Uele, also known as Aitasi Uele, is the Divisional Services Administrator at Va’a o Tautai – Centre for Pacific Health within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago. In this role, she provides essential support to Divisional Pacific committees and all staff members at Va’a o Tautai. She ensures that work is undertaken in a culturally safe and welcoming environment for visitors, communities, staff, and students. Leveraging her strong organisational skills and deep understanding of Pacific Island community protocols, she contributes to the effective functioning of the centre. Va’a o Tautai – Centre for Pacific Health features a diverse team working in New Zealand and the Pacific region on health matters important to Pacific communities. The centre provides strategic leadership, oversees academic and support programmes including POPO and mentoring, and engages in regional activities, all underpinned by the University of Otago Pacific Strategic Framework 2022–2030. The team is based at 71 Frederick Street in Dunedin.
Originally hailing from the beautiful islands of Samoa, Tasi Mafi Uele brings valuable experience from her teaching career, having taught in Samoa and Tokelau for a number of years. Her academic qualifications consist of a Bachelor of Education (BEd) from the National University of Samoa and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDIp) from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. She is proficient in speaking Samoan, Fijian, Tokelauan, and Tongan, facilitating communication within Pacific contexts. Her contributions as Divisional Services Administrator support the broader operations of Va’a o Tautai, which includes areas such as Pacific health teaching, research, student support, and the Takiala Pacific Health Leadership Network.
